Domaine des Marrans is located in Fleurie, in the heart of the northern part of Beaujolais. Current proprietor Jean-Jacques Melinand succeeded his father in 1970, and his son Mathieu joined him in in 2008 after studying oenology and gaining practical experience in New Zealand and Australia. The domaine has 50 acres throughout the region and the only varietal grown on the estate is Gamay Noir, which is the same grape responsible for 95% of the production of Beaujolais as a whole. Organic farming and minimal intervention is practice. This wine from the village of Chiroubles is some of the lightest, but also some of the most refreshing, wines of the region. Semi-carbonic maceration aging 11 months in larger older oak barrels. Remarkably pure and fresh, with a grain and spice to the old vine Gamay that underlines quality terroir Mathieu is working with. This wine displays their terroir with clear definition and racy floral deliciousness. The deep fruit and dry tannins makes is this a perfect companion to your next roast chicken or turkey dinner.
